Nokia is pushing hard for consolidation, looking to make their smartphones the go-to device for communication. One of the major announcement at Nokia World 2008 this year is about their Nokia Messaging solution. Read on for the press release.
At Nokia World 2008, Nokia announced their new Nokia Maps product. The most compelling feature is the ability to plan your trip on your PC, and then sync the route to your Nokia phone. Also included are 3D landmarks for 216 cities, to help users visually identify where they are! Camera locations are included for select cities, so folks can avoid those pesky speeding tickets. Neat stuff.
Nokia N97, the next generation high-end mobile phone from Nokia. Described by Nokia folks as a “handheld computer” this device is a pretty comfortable high-end phone. It has a tilting (resistive) touch-screen display, and is the first N-series phone with a QWERTY keyboard. It has 32 gigabytes of memory, expandable to 48 GB via 16 GB memory card. It has a digital compass, a 1500 milliamp battery, and DVD quality video capture. It’s extremely comfortable to hold, easy to use, and represents a solid solid evolution of the Nokia smarthphone line.
Nokia has debuted, in beta, a Flash application called Nokia Build. The pitch: remix your phone. You can design a 100% original Nokia 7310 Supernova cover using simple drawing tools, image uploads and a library of themes and iconography. Then, have it delivered to your door.
Remember the special Bruce Lee edition of the N96. Along with the new device edition, Nokia also prepare a viral video to promote the new offering. A short video features theman himself, Bruce Lee, lighting matches with nothing but his nunchucks. Awesome!!!
News from EngadgetMobile: Peeped in spy pics on these Interwebs since June, Nokia just went official with the 6260 slide. Unfortunately, “slide” in this case reveals a numeric keypad not a QWERTY. Otherwise, it’s pretty much an iterative step beyond the 6220 classic. As such, we’re looking at a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, WiFi, and HSDPA/HSUPA data to quickly share photos and video on Nokia’s Ovi service with the promise of support for other photo and video sharing sites you might actually use. The 6260 slide also features Nokia Maps riding AGPS — a first for a mass market, Series 40 device. Ships in early 2009 for about €299 before taxes and carrier subsidies, naturally.
EA Mobile is out with FIFA 2009 for Nokia’s N-Gage platform. The N-Gage application is currently available on the Nokia 5320 XpressMusic, 6210 Navigator, N78, N79, N81, N81 8GB, N82, N85, N95, N95 8GB and N96, with more phones due to be added over time.
Nokia has recently released the Nokia N96 Bruce Lee limited edition phone in Hong Kong. The cellphone has Bruce Lee’s face and signature on the back case and comes bundled with several accessories and a Bruce Lee doll. It’s available for 8,788 Chinese yuan (about $1,286).
